Seriously, did you only use a 65 mm lens? Or did you use extension tubes or closeup for extra magnification. I've been trying to get more detail in my macro shots with no success
It's by no means an ordinary 65mm lens. It's the Canon MP-E 65mm Macro lens, sometimes referred to as the Magic Mole.
"I've been trying to get more detail in my macro shots with no success" Quicker flash synch, 1/200 or there abouts, smaller aperture F10-F13, ISO 100 or 200. This will give you more DOF and make the flash work as a virtual shutter. You may get black backgrounds so you might want to carry some colourful card or fruit around. A full set of Kenko or Polaroid extension tubes will give you 2x magnification with your Macro lens. Make sure they have the correct electrical connections.
